FROM GRIEF TO RESILIENCE. RESTORING DIGNITY AND HOPE

Program Overview

Empowering Widows in Bethlehem is a practical, faith-centered livelihood program led by Pauline Ayyad, supporting a close-knit community of widows in the West Bank. Having walked her own journey through loss and restoration, Pauline now gathers and mentors women who have faced deep grief, ongoing uncertainty, and economic hardship – yet remain determined to provide for their families with dignity.

Delivered in partnership with Philoi Global, the program combines social media marketing training, one-on-one coaching, and an introduction to a savings group model. Alongside this, ARISE will create a simple shared website to showcase the women’s products to a wider audience – giving them a stronger platform for growth and long-term independence.

Pauline's Story - From Loss to Forgiveness

In 2007, Pauline Ayyad’s husband, Rami, was abducted and murdered for his faith while leading the only Christian bookshop in Gaza. Pregnant with their third child, Pauline was left devastated and overwhelmed with grief.

For years she battled pain, anger, and the struggle to forgive. When others urged her to pray for the man who killed her husband, forgiveness felt impossible.

But through prayer and a pivotal forgiveness conference, Pauline made a life-changing decision – she chose to forgive. When Rami’s killer was later arrested, she publicly renewed her forgiveness, declaring that justice belongs to God.

Today, her journey from grief to grace forms the foundation of her ministry to widows in Bethlehem – a testimony of resilience, faith, and restored hope.

Why Empowering Widows in Bethlehem Exists

This program exists because widows in Bethlehem face compounding barriers – grief, limited employment opportunities, regional instability, and restricted access to sustainable income.

For nearly 25 years, Pauline Ayyad has gathered and supported a group of widows who meet regularly for prayer, encouragement, and mutual care. Today, their shared hope is simple and powerful – to use their abilities to earn an income, provide stability, and help secure education and opportunity for their children.

Restoring What Was Taken

In Bethlehem and surrounding communities, widows often carry the weight of survival alone – emotionally, socially, and financially. Even when women have skills and products to sell, many lack the tools to reach customers consistently and grow beyond local word-of-mouth.

This program responds with practical, confidence-building support:

  • Digital skills that help women market their products using everyday platforms
  • Coaching that turns learning into action
  • Savings practices that build resilience and reduce vulnerability over time
  • A pathway toward long-term stability – not short-term relief

Because restoring dignity means more than meeting immediate needs – it means creating real opportunity.
